The Italian government has taken measures to give the property market an extra impulse. On January 1, 2014 the cadastral tax on the sale of second homes will be reduced by 900 for every 100,000 of the sale price.
This decision is expected to encourage buyers who are looking for a property in a higher price range. On a property of for example 500,000 euros, this represents a benefit of 4,500 euros. That converts to 0.9% of the total sales price. The savings on the retail price is even higher if you plan to actually live there, as opposed to a home that you are buying for investment purposes in the house. Tax for every 100,000 of the sale price will be further reduced by 1,236 euros.
